Le rôle fondamental de la diversité biologique, en particulier celui des femmes afro-descendantes, a été mis en lumière à l’occasion d’un échange de haut niveau tenu à Bogotá, en Colombie, entre la vice-présidente colombienne Francia Márquez et la ministre d’État en charge de l’Environnement de la République démocratique du Congo, Ève Bazaiba.
Cette rencontre s’est tenue dans le cadre de la Journée internationale de reconnaissance des droits et des rôles des femmes afro-descendantes, célébrée chaque 25 juillet suite à une proclamation de l’Organisation des Nations Unies (ONU). L’objectif de cette journée est de rendre hommage à l’héritage, au combat et à la contribution essentielle des femmes afro-descendantes à la préservation de la biodiversité et au développement durable.
Selon une source officielle contactée lundi à Kinshasa, les deux responsables ont évoqué les enjeux de justice environnementale, de lutte contre le changement climatique et de reconnaissance des savoirs traditionnels des communautés noires, notamment les femmes, dans la gestion durable des écosystèmes.
Francia Márquez, figure emblématique de la cause environnementale et sociale en Amérique latine, a partagé son expérience de militante afro-colombienne engagée dans la défense des droits des populations marginalisées. Pour sa part, Ève Bazaiba a mis en avant l’importance de renforcer la coopération Sud-Sud pour promouvoir les droits des femmes noires dans les espaces de décision environnementale à l’échelle mondiale.
