Le ministre de la Santé publique, hygiène et prévoyance sociale, le Dr Roger Kamba, a dressé un tableau inquiétant de la situation sanitaire en RDC lors d’un point de presse ce jeudi 10 juillet 2025. Depuis le début de l’année, plus de 33 500 cas de choléra ont été recensés dans 135 zones de santé, réparties dans 14 provinces, avec un taux de létalité de 2,1 %.
Rien que pour la semaine 26, le pays a enregistré 1 516 nouveaux cas et 49 décès, la plupart survenus dans les communautés, faute de soins précoces. Le ministre précise que nous sommes désormais à la 27ᵉ semaine épidémiologique.
Dans la capitale, 25 zones de santé sur 35 sont touchées, avec en moyenne 130 nouveaux cas chaque semaine. Trois centres de traitement sont déjà opérationnels : l’Hôpital de Ngiri-Ngiri, l’Hôpital militaire de Kokolo, et Pakadjuma. Deux autres seront fonctionnels dans la journée : le Centre de santé Maman Koko et l’Hôpital général ex-Maman Yemo.
Le Dr Kamba a insisté :
« Au moindre signe, le malade doit se rendre immédiatement au centre de traitement le plus proche. Le traitement est entièrement gratuit. Il faut éviter l’automédication. »
Symptômes et prévention
Le choléra se manifeste par :
• Diarrhée soudaine et abondante
• Vomissements fréquents
• Soif intense et bouche sèche
• Fatigue extrême, yeux enfoncés
• Absence d’urine
Il s’agit d’une infection diarrhéique aiguë, transmise par l’eau insalubre, les aliments contaminés, et un environnement mal assaini.
Le ministre a appelé la population à respecter les mesures d’hygiène :
Lavage régulier des mains
Boire uniquement de l’eau potable
Consommer des aliments bien cuits
Laver soigneusement les fruits
En cas de symptômes, appeler le 151
Une riposte multisectorielle en action
Le ministère de la Santé, à travers le Centre des opérations d’urgence de santé publique (COUSP), mène une riposte multisectorielle avec ses partenaires. Parmi les mesures engagées :
• Surveillance renforcée
• Équipes d’intervention rapide
• Chloration de l’eau
• Distribution de kits d’hygiène
• Désinfection des foyers
• Sensibilisation communautaire avec les leaders locaux
Par ailleurs, le ministre a salué les provinces déclarées exemptes de choléra : Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami et Lualaba.
Trois laboratoires sont mobilisés pour les analyses : INRB (Kinshasa), le laboratoire de Katanga, et celui de Goma.
