Contrairement aux rumeurs qui circulent, Jean-Marc Kabund, ancien président intérimaire de l’Union pour la démocratie et le progrès social (UDPS) et ex-premier vice-président de l’Assemblée nationale, n’a pas été libéré grâce à la grâce présidentielle récemment accordée par le chef de l’État Félix Tshisekedi. Son avocat a tenu à rétablir la vérité sur les circonstances de sa sortie de prison.
Dans une déclaration officielle, le conseil de Kabund a clarifié la situation :
« Jean-Marc Kabund n’a pas bénéficié de la grâce présidentielle. Sa libération découle d’une procédure judiciaire régulière et non d’une mesure discrétionnaire du président de la République. »
Cette mise au point intervient alors que plusieurs médias et observateurs avaient suggéré que l’ex-cadre de l’UDPS figurait parmi les bénéficiaires de la récente mesure présidentielle ayant concerné plusieurs détenus en République démocratique du Congo.
Une libération entourée d’interrogations
Jean-Marc Kabund avait été arrêté en août 2022 après avoir tenu des propos critiques envers le pouvoir en place. Il avait été poursuivi pour plusieurs chefs d’accusation, notamment outrage au chef de l’État, propagation de faux bruits et atteinte à la sûreté de l’État. En septembre 2023, il avait été condamné à plusieurs années de prison.
Son incarcération avait suscité de vives réactions au sein de l’opposition et des organisations de défense des droits de l’homme, qui dénonçaient une instrumentalisation de la justice à des fins politiques.
Si son avocat affirme que cette libération résulte d’une procédure judiciaire normale, des doutes persistent sur d’éventuelles pressions politiques ayant conduit à cette issue. Certains analystes estiment que sa sortie de prison pourrait être liée à des négociations en coulisses, dans un contexte politique marqué par les tensions post-électorales après les scrutins de décembre 2023.
D’autres y voient un possible signal d’apaisement du pouvoir envers ses opposants, alors que la question des prisonniers politiques demeure un sujet sensible en RDC.
Quel avenir politique pour Kabund ?
Depuis sa libération, Jean-Marc Kabund n’a pas encore pris la parole publiquement. Son avenir politique reste incertain, mais son retour sur la scène politique congolaise est suivi de près.
