Ce procès inédit intervient après la levée des immunités parlementaires de Joseph Kabila en mai dernier, un acte qui a ouvert la voie à une série d’accusations lourdes. L’ancien chef de l’État est soupçonné d’avoir activement soutenu des groupes armés responsables d’exactions dans l’Est du pays. Pour ses partisans, c’est un complot politique orchestré par le régime actuel pour briser une figure encore influente. Pour d’autres, c’est enfin l’heure de rendre justice aux victimes des décennies de violences.
Mais ce face-à-face entre l’ancien homme fort de Kinshasa et la justice militaire pourrait bien redessiner les contours de l’impunité en RDC. S’il aboutit à un jugement équitable, il pourrait établir un précédent inédit dans l’histoire du pays. Dans le cas contraire, il risque de renforcer les suspicions d’une instrumentalisation de la justice à des fins politiques. Le monde a les yeux tournés vers la Haute Cour militaire : l’audace judiciaire congolaise tiendra-t-elle la route ?
