Le vote pour élire le successeur du Pape François s’ouvre ce mercredi 7 mai 2025 au Vatican, en début d’après-midi. Les 133 cardinaux électeurs, venus de divers pays, sont réunis depuis mardi au siège de l’Église catholique romaine.
La journée débutera par une messe matinale à laquelle participeront les cardinaux. Comme l’a souligné un prélat catholique, ce processus se déroule dans une grande discrétion : « Les électeurs sont totalement isolés de toute communication extérieure. Tout pourrait se jouer dès le premier tour », a-t-il précisé.
De nombreuses interrogations émergent autour du profil du 267e souverain pontife de l’Église catholique romaine. Les observateurs s’interrogent sur le type de leader qui pourrait sortir de ce conclave, dans un contexte marqué par de fortes attentes au sein de l’Église et au-delà.
Il est important de rappeler qu’un candidat doit obtenir les deux tiers des voix des électeurs pour être élu nouvel évêque de Rome. Près d’un milliard de fidèles à travers le monde suivent cette élection avec une grande attention.
Par ailleurs, une cérémonie de prestation de serment s’est tenue mardi dans la chapelle Pauline, située au premier étage du Palais apostolique. Elle a officialisé le rôle des personnes chargées de veiller au bon déroulement du conclave et d’assister les cardinaux électeurs.
